Paper Weights and Thicknesses
Paper is often measured in GSM. This stands for grams per square meter and means how many grams a single sheet of paper measuring 1m x 1m weighs.
Common weights in cut sheets are: 80gsm, 90gsm, 100gsm, 120gsm, 130gsm, 150gsm and 170gsm. A low quality sheet used in photo copiers is often 80gsm. Anything above 170gsm is generally considered to be a board material rather than paper.
Card thickness is traditionally measured in Microns. 1000 Microns = 1mm, usually paper is measure in GSM rather than Microns, however you may sometimes see paper measured in Microns.
